COSTAATT Main Campus to Support Central Growth Pole

The new state-of-the-art multipurpose campus being built by the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) will be earmarked to support the central growth pole which spans the areas of Charlieville, Chaguanas, Carapichaima and Couva. So stated Senator the Honourable Fazal Karim, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training who delivered the feature address at the sealing of COSTAATT’s time capsule at Pierre-Connector Road, Chaguanas on Wednesday May 20th, 2015 where the main campus will be constructed.

Karim Opens Jobs Store in Gulf City Mall

Senator the Honourable Fazal Karim, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training formally launched the MTEST O.N.E. (One Network for Everyone) Store at Gulf City La Romaine on Saturday May 23rd, 2015 in effort to bring government services closer to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago. These services include enrolling or registering for programmes or courses offered by any institution under MTEST, registering for the Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses (GATE), registering for the On-the-Job-Training (OJT) programme, obtaining information on tertiary learning institutions, logging issues from existing students or trainees on any agency or MTEST service and registering for services via TTConnect kiosk.

From Abandonment to Advancement – El Dorado Nursing Training Academy

On the heels of International Nurses Day, Senator the Honourable Fazal Karim, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, launched The University of the West Indies School of Nursing (UWISoN) on Wednesday 13th May, 2015. The nursing school is a part of the “St. Augustine Education City” which falls within the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Municipality, and is a shared facility with the Academy of Nursing and Allied Health, run by the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) and The University of the West Indies (UWI). Minister Karim said this integrated campus which is shared by two of the largest tertiary level institutions in the country – The UWI and COSTAATT is a beacon for nursing trainees.

Karim: COSTAATT’s “Studio on Wheels” to become reality

On Monday May 4th 2015 Senator the Honourable, Fazal Karim, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training delivered the opening remarks at COSTAATT’s World Press Freedom Day Symposium held at Hyatt Regency Hotel, Port of Spain and called on the institution, particularly the Ken Gordon School of Journalism and Communication Studies, to reach out to the student population using a mobile training facility aptly called “COSTAATT Studio on Wheels.” The mobile facility will be designed in such a way so that students can reach audiences with built-in features allowing live reports from anywhere in the country.

On Wednesday April 15th 2015, Senator the Honourable Fazal Karim, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training delivered the feature address at the Opening Ceremony of ACTT’s 2nd International Conference 2015 on Higher Education and Training. The theme for this year’s conference was “Thinking Global, Acting Local: The Changing Realities of Higher Education and Training” and was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Port of Spain. Speaking at the conference, Minister Karim said that a country’s human resources are its greatest resource and further that a nation’s “talent is its greatest asset.” Karim noted that a nation’s talent determines its wealth, and many countries around the world are giving special attention to developing higher education and training.

Karim Launches Mobile Computer Training Unit for the Differently-Abled
On Monday April 13th 2015, Senator the Honourable Fazal Karim, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training delivered the feature address at the launch of YTEPP’s Mobile Computer Training Unit for the Differently-Abled at the National Centre for Persons with Disabilities, 7- 21 New Street, San Fernando. Speaking at the launch, Minister Karim promised that no differently-abled person would be left behind. He said a 2011 census reported that there are “over 52, 243 persons living with disabilities in Trinidad and Tobago, and 39,318 did not have access to a computer, and 41,296 did not have internet access.” He said the time has come for us to refocus our efforts on reintegrating differently-abled persons into society, and was proud to hear that over 8,000 differently-abled persons were gainfully employed.

635 TechnoKids For The Talent Revolution


On Saturday April 11th 2015, Senator the Honourable Fazal Karim, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training recognized the efforts of 635 children who participated in the TechnoKids programme, an MTEST led project which targets children between the ages of six and nine throughout Trinidad and Tobago, exposing them to computer technology skills beyond basic computer literacy. 
The camp, which is in its third year, includes participating agencies of the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training such as COSTAATT, MIC Institute of Technology, NESC, UTT and YTEPP. It was held over a two week period during the Easter vacation.
